Prepare a Master Image with the VSA 10 Agent
A golden image, or master image, is a name for a ready to go virtual machine used as a template for creating more virtual devices. This guide outlines the steps to prepare the VSA 10 Agent on a computer before creating a master image. This allows you to ensure that devices created by cloning the pre-configured image will connect to VSA automatically with unique identifiers, and function correctly.
NOTE The following steps are for Windows devices only.

- Log on to the device you're using as a master image as an administrator.
- Install the VSA 10 agent if it is not already installed, ensuring it is located in the agent group all copies of this machine will be deployed to. Refer to Installing the VSA 10 agent on a Windows device.
IMPORTANT Ensure that the agent group the master image device resides in is not moved or deleted, as that will break the registration for new devices generated from the master image.
- On this device, stop the VSA 10 service:
- Then, remove the scheduled task that restarts the VSA 10 service:
- Next, delete the ComputerIdentifier and ComputerName Registry key values:
- The device has now been prepared so that when it's copied, the devices generated by copying the master image will, upon their initial startup, connect to the VSA 10 servers, and generate new ComputerIdentifier and ComputerName key values. The ComputerIdentifier will be automatically generated, while the ComputerName will match the new system's hostname.
