Online status notifications

Online status notifications alert technicians when a managed device goes offline or comes back online. Configured through a Status Monitoring profile, these notifications give you fine-grained control over timing, priority, and repeatability so that you receive the right alerts at the right time without unnecessary noise.

Global settings

Two global settings in Configuration > Settings > General govern whether status notifications are active across your environment.

  • Disable offline and online notifications globally: A single checkbox that enables or disables all offline and online notifications for every agent and network device. When this checkbox is selected, no offline or online notifications are sent, regardless of individual profile settings. When it is cleared, notification timing and behavior are managed through Status Monitoring profiles.
  • System Offline Check Interval in Minutes: A numeric field that applies only to agentless network devices and to notifications configured locally on managed devices using the Agent Manager application. For agents with a Status Monitoring profile assigned, the check interval is determined by the notification delay setting in the profile, not by this global field.

How online status notifications work

Status Monitoring profiles define the conditions under which offline and online notifications are sent for each assigned device. When a profile is assigned to an agent, the profile's settings take precedence over global timing values.

Offline notifications

An offline notification is sent when an agent is detected as offline. You can configure each of the following options in the profile:

  • Delay: Choose Immediately to send the notification within one minute of the agent being detected offline, overriding the global System Offline Check Interval. Alternatively, specify a delay in minutes, hours, or days.
  • Priority: Assign a priority level to the offline notification.
  • Repeatability: Enable or disable repeat offline notifications. When repeat notifications are disabled, no further offline notifications for the same device are sent until the existing notification is deleted. If the notification has been deleted, the next offline and online events resume normal notification behavior.

Online notifications

An online notification is optional and is sent when an agent is next detected online after a previous offline notification was triggered. Online notifications follow the same repeatability logic as offline notifications:

  • If offline notifications are set to non-repeatable, only one online notification is sent after the device returns online, regardless of how many times the device status changes.
  • If offline notifications are repeatable, online notifications also repeat, but only after a new offline notification is sent and the device transitions back online.
  • An online notification is not sent if no offline notification was previously triggered, or if offline notifications are disabled.

You can also assign a priority to online notifications independently of the offline notification priority.

Remote control disabled notifications

A separate notification type is available for when an end user disables remote control using the Agent menu. You can configure this notification within the Status Monitoring profile alongside offline and online notification settings.

Agentless network devices

For agentless network devices with offline notifications configured in Site Maps, the global System Offline Check Interval in Minutes value continues to control the check timing. These devices are not governed by Status Monitoring profile delay settings.
